Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Our brake system is a set of trucks that can theoretically go on any piece of wood. However, both size options are designed for longboards/cruisers so if you put it on a classic skateboard it'll be pretty funky. It's designed for every kind of longboard: drop-throughs, pintales, and cruisers. Some exceptions for extremely unique or custom designs may apply, so if you're unsure just hit us up and we'll let you know! We offer a couple of size options to match your board's width.
Each retrofit kit we ship out is ready to roll. It includes our rear Skate Brake truck and wheels, a set of matching front wheels, plus all the installation and adjustment tools along with instructions.
Nope! We've all personally used this brake going as fast as we possibly can.
Everybody who rides it is amazed at how smooth it is. Even if you were to stomp on the brake accidentally at high speed, you still won't get thrown off, it's that smooth. Since the brake is oriented behind your back foot, your center of gravity does not shift forward when you press it.
Our brake pads are seriously tough. For most riders, you're looking at about 2-3 years before you'll need to think about replacing them. If you're a die-hard skater bombing hills on the daily and constantly hitting the brakes heavily, you might be looking at closer to a year.
When it's time for new pads, we've got you covered. You can grab replacements right from our website, and we'll even show you how to switch 'em out. So no need to drop cash on a whole new brake. We've got your back!
We're not trying to replace powersliding, it is and always will be at the heart of longboarding - and whether you rock our BrakeBoard or throw the skate brake on your own deck, you will absolutely still be able to powerslide. What our brake does, is it opens up a whole new world of places to ride. Think busy campuses, tight paths, insanely steep % straight hills - places where you used to think twice before taking your board.
For sure! You've got control over your brake power. There's a bolt at the back of the brake that you can either loosen or tighten to tweak the responsiveness. You can dial it in to find the feel that's just right for you. Keep the braking power low and smooth for everyday cruising, or crank it up tight for extreme downhill riding.
Unfortunately, our brake isn't built for a skateboard mainly due to the much smaller wheel size used on skateboards. There also isn't enough room on a skateboard for a brake pedal. However, if enough people ask us for it, we could always try to cook something up.
You betcha. Our narrow option is tailor-made to be a perfect fit for cruiser boards. It's all about enhancing that laid-back, cruising vibe. After all, having to drag your foot to slow down kind of interrupts the flow, right? With our Skate Brake™, you can focus fully on the ride and truly enjoy what your cruiser is built for. It's like getting an upgrade that lets you fully tap into the cruiser experience. No more foot braking, just pure, uninterrupted cruising.
For the front truck, you've got free rein. Mix and match, do whatever feels right for your ride. But for the brake truck, it's a bit of a different story. The wheels there are specially made to work with the brake, so only VibeRide wheels will fit the bill. But hey, don't sweat it! We've got some cool stuff in the works. We're planning on rolling out a range of wheel designs and colors, so you'll have plenty of choices. And of course, we'll have a matching front set for each. So you'll be able to keep your ride looking fresh and feeling dialed in. Stay tuned!
